Soren Bennick's The Power of One™

Junior and Senior Shows

There are three versions of the Power of One:

  • Junior Show, grades K-3, 40 minutes long
  • Senior Show grades 4 +, 35 minutes long
  • Full School Show, grades K-6+, 40 minutes long

At the regular booking price, Soren Bennick does both the Junior and Senior shows at each school we visit.  This involves spending an entire morning or an entire afternoon at the school.

For schools that require only one show, we do the Full School Show at a reduced price.

Differences Between the Shows

The difference between the Junior and Senior shows is that:

  • The Junior Show does not present a cyber-bullying scene.  We found, through experience, that not enough of the children in grades K-3 understood enough about electronic communication to make this an effective scene.
  • The Junior show uses a call-and-response technique with the audience that is missing in the Senior Show.  Older children, we found, were not enthusiastic about this type of audience involvement.
  • The Junior Show has a longer introduction that explains in detail about the boxes, colours, and roles that are used in the presentation.  For the Senior show, we assume a higher sophistication level and move directly to the bullying scenarios.  This is appreciated by the audience.
  • Tongue-and-cheek humour is used in the Senior Show so that the audience understands that the actors are not talking down to them.  This is especially true in the Bystander and Power-of-One Reveal scenes which involved audience interaction.  By asking the students to be part of the humour of the show, we hold their attention and reinforce the message.  This is especially true when there are grades sevens and eights in the audience.
  • The Full School Show is a middle version between the Junior and Senior Shows. Cyber bullying is shown and humour is used to promote the message.  Bullying concepts are explained at the outset and the introduction touches on the purpose of the colours and the boxes.  The actors are aware of the gap between younger and older children and adapt their style so that each age group is reached.
